|
A quick update on what's been happening the last couple of weeks.
Personal
For the past two or three weeks I have been searching for a job in the San Francisco Bay area. I was hired last week and began working Monday at a small business in the Oakland area. The search required a great deal of time -- unemployment is more than 10% here -- and now that I have a regular job, 11 hours of my waking weekdays are work related. But my financial situation has improved and I am settling into work. This is good.
(I'm posting from work, probably bad, but an update is in order!)
My laptop broke Monday. This is major bad. All the data should be recoverable and all the source code and development related data is already backed up to my desktop and at offsite locations, so no problems there. But I handled all licensing and emails from the laptop, so activities I was already behind in I am further behind in.
Journler
Giles Turnbull wrote a kind post about the end of Journler over at The Cult of Mac.
His post has already resulted in inquiries from other developers interested in purchasing Journler. In addition, as I have begun catching up with emails, I am coming across more developers interest in taking up Journler. This is great! It looks very good for the future of Journler right now and I am very hopeful that Journler development will continue. I will definitely keep everyone updated.

This is terrific news. It makes me glad I didn't delete anything out of Journler but instead copied it...
Will there be any kind of mailing list to get an announcement when this happens, or is it best to just watch the forums? |

It's a horror show to have a computer crap out, Phil -- hopefully not too expensive to fix.
Very glad to hear of the interest in Journler. I've been looking for an alternative and I'm damned if I can find one that even comes close to Journler. So glad it's going to live. Hope the new developer decides soon and has even a fraction of the creativity you put into it.
Giles Turnbull got it right.

I will definitely keep folks abreast of news through the forum and blog, so don't worry about being added to a specific mailing list.
I was able to fix my laptop. Turns out I had a bad memory module. Had to take the damn thing apart to figure that out! Would never have guessed it was a mem module problem from the symptoms. Thank goodness it was easy. Of course, now I have three leftover screws and a random piece of metal after putting the laptop back together... |

| Phil, Good to hear you're getting things back together again (including your laptop ;)). I assume it is a relief to have lost the burden of all things Journler and it must be a relief to know that other developers are interested to take that off your shoulders. That's great news indeed. I've been researching alternatives the last couple of weeks, but I can't find anything that comes even halfway close to Journler. Please keep us posted of any development... |

Congratulations on getting things in order.
I very much hope the developer picks-up Journler. I, too, have been searching for the next database, but find myself not wanting to leave Journler.
Support and development are the issue. Any idea when a deal and development might go through? |

Congrats on the job, Phil! That must be a real load off your mind.
I'm psyched to hear about buyer's interest in your fantastic creation. Fingers crossed! |
